About US
Liberated Montessori Education is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to authentic Montessori learning for all children. Rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing, equitable, and high-quality educational environment, we work to remove financial and systemic barriers that stand in the way of families.
Our signature initiative, Lee’s Fund, provides scholarships that bridge the gap left by state child care subsidies, supporting families who qualify, as well as those from underrepresented communities who may not. Through this program, children receive a full day of Montessori care and education, along with nutritious meals, while teachers are supported with fair, livable wages that sustain their passion and expertise.
Liberated Montessori Education, is more than the schools we help support, we are a community committed to equity, opportunity, and lifelong impact. Together with our donors and supporters, we are building a future where access to Montessori education is not a privilege, but a right every child can enjoy.
Our Story
In the summer of 2013, Leslie and Sterling Whitmore founded The Liberated Montessori House in East Dallas, opening their home to the community by caring for twelve preschool-aged children in a home-based Montessori program. What began as a small, heartfelt effort quickly grew—first with a larger campus near White Rock Lake, and five years later with a second campus in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff.
Now, more than 12 years later, after serving hundreds of children and families, the Whitmore family has expanded their vision once again with the creation of Liberated Montessori Education, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit initiative. This new chapter is dedicated to ensuring Montessori education is accessible to all families, regardless of household income, and continues the Whitmores’ commitment to equity, community, and authentic Montessori learning.
